Empowering Through Art and Education
One of our team members, Kanchan Singh, has taken a step towards the education initiative by teaching two children: Shivangi (5) and Ankur (9). Shivangi's father sells vegetables, and her mother is a housemaid. They send both children to a government school, but they cannot afford books. Shivangi uses her older brother Ankur’s old book and only has one notebook to write. Despite these challenges, Shivangi is a very talented girl who loves to draw and learns quickly.
Kanchan recalls, “Once when I was coming home, I saw a little girl drawing something on the wall with a piece of coal. The girl was making a picture on the wall. I asked her why she was drawing on the wall as it was not meant for art. She responded that she didn’t have a drawing book. Her innocence made me realize I needed to help her. As a graphic designer, I saw potential in her and decided to nurture that talent. Every week, I teach her drawing, and I believe that with my small effort, she could one day become a talented artist.”
The lesson from this initiative is beautifully captured in the saying, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” Kanchan’s initiative not only provides an opportunity for Shivangi to explore her creative talent but also encourages a sustainable way of learning and growing.
We at 3EA believe that education, especially in the form of art, can have a lasting impact on a child’s future. Through Kanchan's efforts, Shivangi now has the opportunity to hone her skills and potentially become a skilled artist in the future.
